The Plant Science Summer Camp (PSSC) is a 2-week program consistent of workshops in the laboratories of the Center for Desert Agriculture that aims to expose students to the multidisciplinary aspects of Plant Biology and to give an overview on the research activities of the Plant Science Program at KAUST. The workshop will cover different aspects of basic and applied plant science and the strategies employed towards improving the performance of classical crops in harsh environment. The participants will learn the importance of plant biology to establish sustainable agriculture in the kingdom.   

The workshop will expose students to the multidisciplinary aspects of Plant Biology, in the following areas: 

  • Rice genomics 
  • Saltwater-based agricultural system 
  • Growth regulators and food security 
  • Plant genome engineering, cereal genomics, and Plant microbiome 
  • Genetics of disease resistance in wheat 
  • Plant development under arid conditions 
  • Greenhouses and agroecosystem and Indoor farming 
  • Core lab tours and Admission requirement presentation  
  • And more activities including alumni panel discussion 

The students will get in touch with the state-of-the-art technologies and will have the opportunity to experience the scientific atmosphere within the Plant Science teams in particular and at KAUST in general.
